Really enjoyed making this one! I feel like I'm getting closer and closer to my own sound, and while that may evolve and morph over time, “Moving On” feels like an important step for me. In fact, I've used it as the basis for a lot of stuff I'm cooking up as we speak…
I tried to demonstrate my range with this one! Though I lean towards melody and vibes with my music, I love listening to and producing the more heavy-hitting styles from time to time. And I think my orchestral influence is really starting to shine through with the Hans Zimmer-esque drums! Hope you enjoy :) Next release will be more melodic.
I laid down the initial idea for ‘Doubt’ in early 2022. At that point it was just the chords and the drop. I wrote lyrics to go on top of those chords a few months later. Since my music sits somewhere between emotional melodrama and high-energy EDM, I wanted the lyrics to reflect a more introspective side of me. Thematically, this wound up being somewhat similar to ‘Back to Me’, in that the lyrics are about finding one’s path and feeling doubt about choices you’ve made, or those you’ve yet to make. For me, in a literal sense, this song is about my own fears and doubts surrounding music. Countless nights of thinking I’m not good enough or that I’m crazy to pursue this wild fantasy. While I did learn how to shut those feelings up, it’s a feeling that never quite goes away.
The next release is going to be MUCH more traditionally EDM. I can’t wait to share it with you.
A big challenge I’ve faced these past few years is figuring out what I want to do with my life, and the kind of person I want to be. When I recently graduated college, I really began wondering how my future would unfold. I’ve always wanted to make music, but it can be a real struggle to figure out which way is forward. ‘Back to Me’ is about traversing the unknown, swimming in a sea of uncertainty where the waves push and pull in endless directions. Sometimes you get somewhere, sometimes you wind up right where you started. People may tell you to give up on your dream. A lot of the time, YOU will tell yourself to give up. The important thing is to keep pushing on, no matter how rough the waves get.
Thank you for listening to ‘Back to Me’, and stay tuned for ‘Doubt’, releasing in August!
